Jim Kukral, author of the bestselling book, Attention! This Book Will Make You Money, delivered the keynote address at Affiliate Summit East 2010 on Tuesday, August 17, 2010.
Jim gave a really inspirational talk that focuses on building a business around a lifestyle.

Day two of Affiliate Summit East 2010 started off with the keynote address from Frank Luntz, author of one of my favorite books, Words That Work.
I was really looking forward to this talk and it didn’t disappoint with facts, figures, examples, and ideas for molding a message.
After the keynote, Frank Luntz signed copies of his books for an hour.
The exhibit hall also opened on the morning of day two of Affiliate Summit East 2010, and there was a nice flow of affiliate marketers throughout the two floors of the area.
Breakout sessions during the day covered a wide array of topics, including Facebook, Google slaps, legal issues, SEO, social media, and the Android platform.

There were a number of other networking and educational events throughout the day, such as the Affiliate Showcase, Vertical Exchange, and Ask the Experts roundtables.

I started off the first day of Affiliate Summit East 2010 with a 10 AM session geared towards folks attending Affiliate Summit for the first time.
I wasn’t sure if I’d be speaking to a sparse crowd as I headed down, and I was delighted to have a large, packed room of conference attendees looking for advice on how to make the most of Affiliate Summit.
My session was followed by the opening of the Meet Market and a series of breakout sessions that covered all sorts of topics, including SEO reviews, outsourcing, podcasting, and WordPress.
I really liked the way our new method of Q&A via SMS, Web and Twitter worked out.
While the action was taking place in the Meet Market and sessions, the exhibit hall was being built out for days 2 and 3 of Affiliate Summit East 2010.
In the evening, I headed to ShareASale’s “Under the Stars” Party on the Empire Hotel Rooftop to continue the networking and good times.
Four hours of sleep, one 5-Hour Energy drink and two 20 oz. Diet Dr. Peppers later and it’s on to day 2.

The Audience Conference took place August 14, 2010 at Carolines on Broadway in New York City.
It was a one day event featuring an amazing line-up of brilliant minds and hilarious comedians.
Speakers included the likes of Chris Brogan and Jason Calacanis, as well as a slew of funny people who have been featured on Comedy Central, HBO, Jimmy Kimmel Live, and Last Comic Standing.
The Audience Conference also marked my debut on the comedy stage.
After the sheer terror faded away of trying to perform comedy after a half dozen professional comics did their sets, it was a lot of fun.

How to Futureproof Your SEO Efforts presentation from Affiliate Summit West 2008, which took place February 24-26, 2008 in Las Vegas, NV.
This session will help people develop strategies that will work for the long haul, so they can avoid some of the ups and downs of SEO.

There will be four book signings during Affiliate Summit East 2010 at the onsite Barnes & Noble bookstore.
The Barnes & Noble will be open 9:00am to 5:00pm on Monday, August 16, and Tuesday, August 17 with a variety of books related to Internet marketing available for purchase.
Book signings on Monday will be with Frank Luntz from 11am to 12pm and Peter Shankman from 4pm to 5pm.
Then on Tuesday, Jim Kukral will be signing from 11am to 12pm, and Kristopher Jones will be there from 12pm to 1pm.
The bookstore will be located outside of the Grand Ballroom in the hallway between the escalators.
I just got my copy of Attention! This Book Will Make You Money by Jim Kukral, and he wrote a really useful book.
After I received it, I read the book cover to cover.
The premise is that you need to employ various ideas to get attention to your company or brand to grow them.
Jim Kukral boils it down to simple to digest and execute techniques and strategies, such as creating a compelling hook, maintaining a good brand name online, going from idea to success in eight hours, and twenty-six ways to generate killer ideas.
He also touches on three truths for coming up with ideas, making money from online videos and social media, getting and keeping subscribers, as well as the universal truths of selling on the web.
If you’re not familiar with Jim, he’s been around the online marketing space for over a decade and he walks the walk. I greatly respect his work and found the book to be extremely valuable.

Q: We’re an online printing company and we have an affiliate program. What’s the best way to get this program known and out to affiliate marketers?
A: There are a few different things I would suggest. First and foremost, communicate in real language about the actual value propositions you have with your affiliate program.
Don’t make broad proclamations that you have the best offer, it’s the highest paying, etc. Those sorts of nebulous touts will alienate potential affiliates.
Explain to affiliates why the affiliate program works for them, not why it’s so wonderful. Tell them your average order size, EPC, and other metrics that will help them assess your affiliate program.
Also, it will benefit your program if you have a presence in the various industry discussion boards and forums, blog and Tweet useful information for affiliates, keep an eye on questions being asked on LinkedIn, etc.
Become a resource and help people. That will serve as a great advertisement for your as an affiliate manager when you take on an active role in affiliate marketing.
And make yourself very available when your affiliates need help. Word gets around about this sort of thing.
Additionally, you can’t duplicate face-to-face meetings online, so get out there to industry events and meet with your current and potentially future affiliates.
Start speaking at conferences to have a bigger presence there, as well as organizing dinners for your affiliates. While you are together with the affiliates, ask them what they want, and if at all possible, give it to them.

There is no easy answer to the dilemma of what level of PPC search to allow affiliates to engage in. Do affiliates enhance brands or simply drive up CPC’s and violate T&C’s?
