Q: Can you recommend some affiliate marketing website or blogging templates (free or low cost) for a newbie to affiliate marketing? Intuit offers some templates with the e-commerce part built in, for instance, would that be a good place to start? I’m using WordPress.
A: The blogs that I run are running the premium WordPress theme, Thesis.
I would personally recommend Thesis, as I’ve chosen it for myself, because I like the features and flexibility of it.
It’s one of the premium themes, so you have to pay for it, but it’s less than $100 currently, and I think it’s well worth it for what you get.
There are plenty of free themes out there, but bear in mind the adage that you get what you pay for. One of the attractive things to me about Thesis, aside from the output and nuts and bolts of it, is that customers get access to members-only answers and forums, as well as lifetime Thesis upgrades.
You typically won’t see too many upgrades or any support with free themes.
Also, take a look at WordPress-powered sites that you like. Often, there will be a link in the footer that indicates which theme they are using.
You mentioned that Intuit offers some templates with the e-commerce part built in. I am not clear what you mean by that.
As an affiliate, you get the tracking code from the affiliate program or network, and they track and process the transactions. You don’t have to worry about it.

Retail e-commerce spending for the entire November – December 2010 holiday season reached $32.6 billion, which marks a 12-percent increase over 2009 and an all-time record for the season, according to comScore.
I’ve seen lots of skeptics remarking that it’s no big deal that online sales exceeded last year. Well, to all of the nattering nabobs of negativism, take note that this was the biggest season ever for online sales – not just better than 2008 or 2009.
Also of significance was the fact that Cyber Monday turned out to be the biggest day of the year for online sales. Many have ranted over the years (myself included) about Cyber Monday being more fairy tale than reality when it comes to the biggest online shopping days.
But not this year – the online sales exceeded $1 Billion on Monday, November 29 (Cyber Monday). Scott Silverman, who is credited with coining the term, deserves a healthy dose of smug satisfaction.
Congratulations to all of the affiliate marketers who are sitting on stacks of paper from the end of 2010.
