Highlights from Affiliate Summit East 2012

Affiliate Summit East 2012Affiliate Summit East 2012, the premier affiliate marketing conference, took place August 12-14, 2012 in New York City at the Hilton New York with over 4,000 affiliate marketers.

This three day conference included an exhibit hall with affiliate merchants, vendors, and networks, as well as multiple tracks of educational sessions covering the latest trends and information from affiliate marketing experts.

The keynotes for Affiliate Summit East 2012 were Sara Levinson, Ntiedo (NT) Etuk, and Dave Cupples, as well as a keynote panel featuring Nick Koscianski, Rae Hoffman-Dolan, Amanda Orson, Eleah Portillo, and Missy Ward.

Follow Directions or be Left Behind

A couple years ago, my daughter Lexie was really upset when she got points off her homework for failing to write her name at the top.

Face-palmIt was a frustrating way to have a grade dropped, but it was her fault.

It’s understandable when a kid fails to follow directions, and they eventually learn that it’s essential to do so.

But it seems some kids never got corrected.

I was reminded of this today as article proposals have poured in for the next issue of FeedFront magazine.

The posts about submitting an article, as well as the the proposal page, state:

“Do not submit a complete article now – just a one sentence summary.”

However, every third article proposal is two or three sentences.

But we don’t just take points off. We simply don’t consider proposals that fail to follow the simple directions.

Consider yourselves corrected, grown up kids.

Issue 19 of FeedFront Magazine is out, so we’re on to issue 20, and we need content.

Feedfront issue 19 coverThe next issue of FeedFront will be coming out in November 2012, and we are accepting article proposals for issue 20 of FeedFront through August 31.

If you are interested in writing an article, go to the FeedFront article proposal form to submit a one sentence summary on what you’d like to cover.

No ghost-written articles. We only want content from people writing from their personal industry experience.

If you have previously been accepted to write an article and either failed to meet the deadline or did not adhere to the editorial guidelines, please submit your article proposal elsewhere. We take our deadlines and guidelines seriously.

Do not submit a complete article now – just a one sentence summary.

We will contact everybody who submitted a proposal to let them know whether their article ideas are accepted or denied.

Do People Really Make Money in Affiliate Marketing?

Q: Are there people actually making money with Affiliate marketing? Could you give reference websites. There are too many liars in this business.

Shawn CollinsA: As far as your first question, yes, there are people making money in affiliate marketing.

And also, I agree that there are too many liars in this business.

One example I will give you is my site, ExtraMoneyAnswer.com. Take a look there, because I tell my story about how I got started in affiliate marketing.

It was a pretty slow start. I went a few months without making a dime.

The new few months after that I made a little bit. My progress continued from there, as I testing things out and developed successful processes for my sites. This enabled me to scale up.

The majority of people are not making a lot of money in affiliate marketing.

However, if you put some time into it, you can certainly make $100 or $500 a month through affiliate marketing.

If you invest more time and money, you can scale it up. There are many folks making a nice living this way.

As far as reference websites, a couple of the bigger affiliate sites are Flamingo World and FatWallet in the coupon site area.

There are so many different types of affiliate sites out there.

Hopefully, that puts you a little at ease with how thing work.

When it comes to advice from affiliate marketers, take a look at the various forums to get a feel for which people are typically most respected and tend to give the best advice.

But take advice with a grain of salt, until you trust somebody, because they could be inflating their knowledge and experience.

There is definitely opportunity out there if you are willing to apply yourself.

Still Time to Provide Session Feedback for Affiliate Summit East 2012

Affiliate Summit East 2012 attendees were able to use a new app to submit session feedback from phones and tablets called EventMethod.

The session feedback option on the app, which is available at iTunes and Google Play, will be open through Friday, August 24.

Please share your thoughts, so we can better understand what you like and what you don’t care to see in the future.

If you registered Affiliate Summit East 2012 and didn’t already use the app, you should have received an email from EventMethod a few days before Affiliate Summit East 2012 directing you to download the app.

The email included a unique registration number. Once the app is downloaded, you enter your 9-digit registration number and will be able to use the app.

How to Submit Session Feedback on Your Smartphone

  • Select the session where you’d like to provide feedback.
  • Select the Take Survey.
  • Select the question you would like to answer.
  • Then type in your answer, select from the multiple choice answers or slide the ratings bar and hit submit. After you submit you will return to the list of survey questions, to respond to the next question on the list.

If you would like to respond to a survey for a different agenda item, return to the agenda list and select another agenda item.

The sessions at Affiliate Summit East 2012 were recorded on video and will be made available in the near future to attendees who had a Networking Plus, VIP, or All Access pass.

Keynote Panel on Women in Affiliate Marketing

These videos should be ready in approximately four weeks, and they will be available online until the next Affiliate Summit.

We will send an email out with information to access them.

The keynote addresses from Dave Cupples, Ntiedo (NT) Etuk, and Sara Levinson, as well as the keynote panel on women in affiliate marketing will be posted publicly in the near future to the Affiliate Summit channel on YouTube.
