What is Big Brothers Big Sisters of New York City?
Big Brothers Big Sisters of New York City (BBBS of NYC) is a well-established, recognized and respected 105-year-old youth mentoring organization. It’s mission is to provide mentors to all children who need caring adult role models–special friends who can help expand their horizons, realize their potential and enrich their futures–changing their lives. They seek to train community organizations in every neighborhood, empowering them to establish their own mentoring programs.Affiliate Summit East 2009, taking place August 9-11, 2009 at the Hilton New York, will include sponsorships and activities to generate donations from the affiliate marketing community to Big Brothers Big Sisters of New York City.
Past charity partnerships with Affiliate Summit include Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Nevada, the LEAGUE, March of Dimes, National Breast Cancer Foundation, the Starlight Starbright Foundation, and the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
There will be a silent auction, conference sponsorships, and other activities where 100 percent of funds raised will go directly to BBBS of NYC. Conference attendees will also be encouraged to make donations on behalf of their companies or themselves.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of New York City is a cause close to me, and I’m excited to help benefit them.
Back in the mid-90’s, I was a “Big” with BBBS of NYC. I made an appearance on the cover of their annual report in 1997 (wearing a tie!).
And here is a letter to the editor I sent to the New York Daily News back in December 1996 asking people to donate their Jets tickets to BBBS of NYC, so the Bigs and Littles could use them.
This was during a torturous 1-15 season for the Jets, and virtually nobody was using their tickets by December.
There was a great response from people sending in tickets to the Jets and a bunch of other New York sports teams.
