Yesterday marked three years since the Performance Marketing Summit held in New York City. This meeting was a gathering of the affiliate networks, merchants, and affiliates to discuss the establishment of rules for affiliates that promote affiliate programs with adware.
The result of this meeting was the Code of Conduct, first published December 10, 2002 by Be Free, CJ and Performics. Around the same time, LinkShare published their Anti-Predatory Advertising Addendum.
Shortly after the networks published their rules, Declan Dunn wrote a series of articles on the subject, Regulating Chaos: Adware and the Affiliate Code of Conduct – Part 1 – Part 2 – Part 3 – Part 4.
