People are all worked up by the recent video of GoDaddy CEO Bob Parsons hunting elephants, and many folks are calling for a boycott of GoDaddy.
Well, I currently have 173 domains at GoDaddy, and I have no plans to disrupt my business over ideological grandstanding that might get me some “likes” on Facebook.
Leave GoDaddy because their interface stinks, their prices are not the lowest, or because they sometimes have Draconian policies. But not because it makes you seem caring and aware on Twitter.
I do business and I am friends with plenty of people who are diametrically opposite from my beliefs in politics, religion, sports, etc.
I could cut them all out of my world, but that would limit me personally and professionally.
Just this morning, I shaved with my Gillette Fusion razor. As a Jets fan, I am duly aware that the Patriots play in Gillette Stadium.
But that thing cuts off those facial hairs just as well as the Jets beat down the Pats in the playoffs last season.
Now you have every right to move your domains over the elephant kill.
Just the same, you can abhor me and cease doing business with me because I am a Christian… a conservative… a Yankees fan.
I hope you don’t. I’d rather be judged on the quality and usefulness of what I provide, rather than my beliefs.
By the way, GoDaddy has promoted their service with scantily clad women for years.
So, if all of these people are leaving in protest of the elephant incident, I can only conclude they tacitly endorsed the years of objectification of women when they were customers of the company.
