Becoming an Affiliate Without a Site

March 5, 2009 by Shawn Collins

Q: I don’t have a Web site, yet, but what happens when I join a supplier’s affiliate program? How do they send me links to their Web site?

Shawn CollinsA: First of all, don’t apply to an affiliate program if you have no place to put the affiliate links. That would sort of be like applying for a job with a blank sheet of paper as your resume.

Before getting started as an affiliate, you need a site, email list, or some other spot to publish the affiliate links.

And then, when you apply and get accepted to affiliate programs, those programs will provide you with access to code for the links.

If you apply to an affiliate program without any URL, you should expect that most affiliate programs will turn you down.

Even if you plan to promote an affiliate program through PPC search, you should create a page to submit to the affiliate programs that indicates that this is what you are doing. They can’t read your mind.
