Ask Shawn Collins: The Price of a Successful Affiliate Program

October 20, 2005 by Shawn Collins

Is it truly possible for a small e-commerce business to succeed with an affiliate program? Are costs of entry too high for smaller businesses, and, if not, what’s the best way to get started affordably?

Absolutely. Affiliate marketing can bring in incremental sales for any sized business. It’s all about managing expectations.

Too many companies think an affiliate program can work magic. In general, you should not expect an affiliate program to sell something that’s not already selling – the affiliate program will simply increase your reach and sales volume.

There are affiliate program technologies at all price points, so that the channel is accessible to even the smallest company.

Some suggestions for budget conscious companies for affiliate program technologies are Affiliate Clicks, Fusion Quest, Groundbreak.com Ultimate Affiliate, and shareasale.com.
