Ask Shawn Collins: The Details on Affiliate Marketing Fraud

October 16, 2005 by Shawn Collins

Q: Where can I find a single source that explains how affiliate marketing works? I am doing a report on affiliate fraud and I need to know the general information, as well as technological details on how it works and how people use it to commit fraud to merchants as well as affiliates?

Shawn CollinsA: If you go to Affilipedia, you will find definitions of affiliate marketing and terms related to the industry.

As far as fraud, it can take many forms: click fraud, fake leads, credit card fraud, etc.

I don’t think you’ll have much luck finding technological details on how these nefarious acts are being perpetrated, as nobody wants to give a roadmap for committing fraud.
