Q: How can I permanently delete an affiliate program cookie from my computer?
A: Let me start by saying that cookies for affiliate programs are not spyware, in the event that was your concern. They are simply tracking whether you perform a given transaction within a certain number of days, so that the person referring you can be compensated.
That said, if you simply don’t want a cookie on your machine from a given company, I’ll explain how to get rid of it.
There are lots of different browsers and versions of those browsers out there, and the following instructions may vary, depending on what you are using. I’ll use Windows XP’s Internet Explorer 6 as an example, as that’s a very popular browser.
After you’ve opened Internet Explorer, perform the following actions:
- Choose Internet Options from the Tools menu.
- Click the Privacy tab.
- Click the Edit button.
- Type the Address of the Web site into the Address of Web site box whose cookie you wish to block.
- Click the Block button.
- Click the OK button.
That should keep that cookie off your computer for perpetuity, or at least until your privacy settings are changed.
