Affiliate Tip: Targeting with Google AdWords

September 13, 2004 by Shawn Collins

Many affiliates use Google AdWords to drive traffic to their sites or through their affiliate links. It’s a great strategy if done correctly.

The problem is that many affiliates are making a big error when setting up a new campaign. You see, the first step in setting up a campaign is to ‘Choose your language and location targeting.’ Easy enough, but lots of affiliates tend to go with the default option, which serves their AdWords in all countries.

What’s the problem? Well, in many cases, the affiliate program you are promoting only ships to the United States. So if you’re running ads all across the world, you are paying for a whole lot of eyeballs that can’t possibly generate any commission for you.
