Unhealthy Blogger Syndrome

I’ve been working on my affiliate fatblogging efforts for the past couple months to lose weight and live a healthier lifestyle, and I’m really glad I finally got motivated to focus on health. After all, those affiliate checks will start evaporating if I am unable to work.

That really hit home when I saw a post from Om Malik last week about his having a heart attack a few days after Christmas.

“I had a heart attack on Dec. 28. I was able to walk into the hospital for treatment that night and have been recovering here ever since. With the support of my family and my team, I am on the road to a full recovery. I am going to be OK.

Now living a healthier life isn’t just one of my New Year’s resolutions, it’s doctor’s orders. Friends and family have purged my apartment of smokes, scotch and all my favorite fatty foods — I am even going to be drinking decaf.”

As I was poking around for more details, I saw on the page about Om on Mahalo that he’s just 41. Just four years older than me.

So, what to do to fix things for those of us with this sort of sedentary lifestyle?

Personally, I joined a gym, where I go several days a week, and I follow the Weight Watchers core plan. And it’s working out for me. I’ve more than half-way to my goal (follow my Affiliate Fatblogging journey).

And I just came across the Blogger Proof Workout from Israel Lagares. He has created a free e-book with an exercise routine for bloggers.

He’s got a funny approach and interesting ideas for getting exercise in your office. Personally, I look forward to getting out of the office and going to the gym - don’t tell me it’s not possible - I work long ass days, too.

Anyhow, the gym is a nice sanctuary where I don’t get distracted by e-mail, IM phone, etc. I just listen to some podcasts or music while de-stressing and sweating it out.

Learn from Om - take care of yourself in the new year.
