2. Why I Use AWeber to Send E-mail
I use a lot of different companies for various business functions, and when there is one that really does a nice job, I like to call them out on it.
One company that I’ve been really pleased with for years is AWeber. I use AWeber to send out newsletters and blog updates for Affiliate Summit, Affiliate Tip, and AffiliateManager.net.
In addition to all of the standard features, they have a couple that I really like:
- Blog broadcast: Create broadcast newsletters automatically from existing blog RSS content feeds or other sources of RSS and XML content.
- Spam Score Analyzer: A popular spam filtering tool called SpamAssassin is used to check your message and display any key areas that are being caught by the filter.
Not to mention the attractive pricing structure and great support from the folks at AWeber. If you’re looking for a company to enable you to collect opt-ins, manage your lists, and send newsletters, I’d enthusiastically recommend AWeber.
See http://tv.affiliatetip.com/item/L72DJ6NPJZZV07FZ for a brief explanation of why AWeber is my preferred vendor for sending out e-mail.
3. Affiliate Millions - Book Report
I’m always on the lookout for new books on affiliate marketing, and I recently came across “Affiliate Millions: Make a Fortune Using Search Marketing on Google and Beyond,” published April 13, 2007.
The book is geared towards affiliates, and I was anxious to read it, as there are few books about the industry, and a lack of resources to provide quality training for affiliates.
To be honest, I was disappointed in the book. While the book promises the reader they can “Make a Fortune Using Search Marketing on Google and Beyond,” the approach was elementary. Not the sort of level that’s going to bring somebody their affiliate millions.
The book kicks off with explanations of affiliate and search marketing and then follows with individual chapters dedicated to somewhat intuitive processes like joining an affiliate network, applying to an affiliate program, and setting up a ppc search campaign.
Each step in excruciating detail. It seems like they were trying to reach a word minimum, rather than write a helpful guide for affiliates.

5. Donut Guy and Future Affiliate Marketing Plans
I had to call in sick for Affiliate Thing this week, and Sam Harrelson subbed for me. Sam and Lisa Picarille welcomed Greg Hoffman, Affiliate Network Director at Think Partnership aka the Donut Guy.
They chatted with Greg about his creative method for getting noticed (he sent donuts to the person hiring for his position) and if he plans to bring that level of creativity to dealing with affiliates.
Thank you to Greg for sending a special shipment of Krispy Kremes my way before the show. Unfortunately, I was on a stomach flu diet of Gatorade yesterday, so I could only look at them.
Sam and Lisa also touched on the class action lawsuit filed by affiliates and merchants against Commission Junction, Be free and ValueClick, how Google is getting creepy, the Apple iPhone, and new eBay programs.
Listen to this episode now. The Affiliate Thing show airs weekly on Wednesdays at noon EST. Tune in at http://www.WebmasterRadio.FM.

6. Cloaking Affiliate Links
I was searching Google and found your tip on camouflaging an affiliate link. I loved it, but I’m wondering if it causes new problems. If I included it in a review I submitted to GoArticles, would that link stay camouflaged, or would something go wrong in the process?
I’m not sure how the Terms of Service might vary for any given content distribution service, but I submit content to EzineArticles.com, and here is their policy:
You declare that you will not send in any articles with direct affiliate links in them. We reject articles with direct affiliate links. It is OK, however, forward/redirect to an affiliate link from the top-level of a domain name you own. For example, it is permissible to forward to an affiliate link from:
http://your-company-name.com/
…but it would not be permissible to forward to an affiliate link from:
http://your-company-name.com/page.html
http://your-company-name.com/subdirectory/
http://your-company-name.com/subdirectory/page.html
This is one of our many article quality standards.
Further, I’m not sure that the code in my tip would be permitted regardless, as the article service might not want to spread that sort of functionality in the content they distribute.
Assuming you are permitted to use links in your articles, I would suggest using .htaccess redirects to clean up the links and keep them on your domain.
As always, I'd love to hear from you! Drop me a line and let me know if you have any suggestions or questions.
